Sovereign Grace Church Enrichment Classes General Registration Information
Tuition, Fees & Texts
Unless stated otherwise by individual teachers parents are responsible for purchasing textbooks and general school supplies. In general tuition for classes/laboratories should be paid to the teacher, not Sovereign Grace Church. Exceptions include: Daniel Baker’s Church History Class.
Tuition frequency is by year or semester. Please see individual class listings for more information. For refund policies, please see individual teachers for refund policies. In general, refunds are prorated.
Contact Information
Should an emergency arise on the day of class, please contact the individual teachers, not the church office. Their phone numbers will be available at orientation. Call Cheryl Price (919.219.7930) if you are unable to reach a teacher.
Tardiness and Absenteeism
Classes begin at their scheduled times and cannot be held up for a late arrival. Please plan to arrive a few minutes before class is scheduled to begin.
Should a student arrive late, he/she is responsible for getting any notes or explanations of work missed from another student after class is over. If a student misses class entirely, it is his or her responsibility to pick up materials handed out that week, so assignments can be completed and turned in on schedule.
Weather
We usually follow Wake County Public Schools for weather closings. If schools are delayed please check your email for an update or contact the individual teachers. Weather make-up days will be in May and additional days will be fit into the schedule as necessary.
Dress Code
Clothing should be neat, clean, and modest in style and appearance so as not to be a distraction to anyone. Please encourage students to dress with modesty and care remembering to make sure clothing maintains modesty if they raise their hands, sit on the floor or bend over. Dress for science laboratories is occasionally more restrictive. For example contact lenses, shorts, flip-flops and short sleeve shirts will not be allowed on dissection days.
General Behavior
Students are expected to be cooperative in behavior. They should show respect at all times to the teacher, the hall monitors and the parents of other students as well as to each other. Talking back or arguing will not be tolerated. Prompt and cheerful obedience is expected. Requests from the teacher(s) should not need to be repeated. Personal conversations during class, consistent interrupting of the class, and general misbehaving during a class will result in discipline (see below).
Students are not to eat in the classrooms. Students may eat in the kitchen, back lobby, or outside before/after their class(es). Please take all food/drink trash to the kitchen trashcans. No chewing gum during class, please!
Students may not bring any of the following into class: laser pointers, electronic toys, walkie-talkies, CD players, skateboards, roller blades, hockey sticks or pucks, footballs, baseballs or softballs, bats, or other items that could be hazardous or distracting. If electronic items are brought for in-between class down-time please leave them with a parent.
The enrichment classes are open to all who are active members of a local church. If you are not, please contact Daniel Baker (dbaker@sovgracenc.org, 919.362.4420) to set up a pastoral interview. The expectations and procedures for the classes are those prescribed or implied in the bible, and we want families involved who share these convictions.
Discipline
Behaviors that will automatically necessitate discipline:
1. Disrespect shown to the teacher, hosts, parents, or other students, whether shown in word, deed, or expression.
2. Dishonesty in any situation while at classes…including lying, cheating, and stealing.
3. Rebellion, such as outright disobedience in response to instruction.
4. Fighting, such as striking in anger with intention to harm.
5. Obscene, vulgar, or profane language as well as taking the name of the Lord in vain. (Topics deemed inappropriate by the teacher also will not be
discussed in class.)
All discipline will be based on biblical principles; e.g., restitution, apologies–both public and private as needed, restoration of fellowship, no lingering attitudes, etc. Most discipline problems will be dealt with in the classroom. If a child is unwilling to offer restitution, apologize, and sincerely ask for forgiveness or restore fellowship and participate in class with a good attitude, the child will be asked to step outside until his/her pride has been swallowed and the child is willing to respond accordingly. Should this happen, the child will be responsible for getting any notes or explanations of work covered from another student. This also applies to a student who is asked to leave because he/she dresses immodestly or inappropriately.
Parents will be informed when any discipline has been necessary. If a discipline issue occurs that cannot or should not be handled by the teacher alone, the above will occur and the parent, student, teacher and a SGC pastor will meet to discuss the problem and possible solutions.
A second parent/student/teacher meeting required for discipline purposes will result in a one-day suspension from class. It will, of course, still be the student’s responsibility to get any notes or explanations of work covered from another student.
If a third parent/student/teacher meeting is required for discipline purposes, the student will be expelled from classes for the rest of the semester.
A word about Expulsion: Forgiveness and restitution are fundamental to our total discipline policy. However, families who are participating in these classes expect that their children can attend class and learn without having one particular student consistently make it difficult for the teacher to teach and for learning to be accomplished. Therefore, a consistent behavioral problem from students will not be tolerated. There are no refunds of tuition in cases of suspension or expulsion.
*Please Note: If a student commits an act with serious consequences, the three-visit process detailed above will be bypassed and suspension or expulsion imposed immediately. Examples of such serious misconduct would include: acts which endanger the lives of others, violence/vandalism, violations of civil law, or an act in clear contradiction of scriptural commands.
